Time to register for Scranton Fishing Day

It’s time to register youngsters to take part in the Scranton Youth Fishing Day. The event will be held Saturday, June 6, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Lost Lagoon, located on the south side of Scranton.

Youngsters ages 3 – 17 are invited to participate. Parents or an adult must attend with the child. Volunteers will be available to assist parents and youngsters who are not expert fishermen.

A limited number of fishing poles will be available to use during the event, thanks to Dan Towers and the Greene County conservation board.

Pre-registration/permission forms are available at Peoples Trust and Savings Bank, city hall and Marchant Memorial Library, all in Scranton. The forms must be submitted by Friday, May 29.

For additional information, contact Ashley Squibb at 712-652-3979, Wendy Johnson at 712-652-3955, or Leesa Squibb at 712-652-3250.

Fishing programs at library: To help youngsters prepare for the upcoming Scranton Fishing Day, the staff of the Scranton public library and volunteers are hosting two afternoon events on Wednesdays, May 20 and 27.

On May 20, youngsters can arrive after Greene County School dismisses to learn about fishing. The topics of casting, baiting the hook and stringing will be covered.

On May 27, participants will practice casting with a little good natured competition. The top three individuals will receive medals.  ~The Scranton Journal
